Alexander L. Volberg (born March 4, 1956 , Leningrad ) is a Soviet and American mathematician , doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, professor at the University of Michigan .

Biography
Graduated from Leningrad State University . He worked in the Leningrad branch of the Mathematical Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences . Pupil N.K. Nikolsky .
Candidate of physico-mathematical sciences (1982) [1] thesis topic “Completeness of rational fractions in weighted L p -spaces on a circle”. Doctor of physico-mathematical sciences (1989) [2] thesis topic “Asymptotic holomorphic functions and their applications”.
Since 1991 he has been working at the University of Michigan.
In 2007-2008 - Wittaker professor at the University of Edinburgh . He also worked as a visiting professor at Berkeley, at the International Institute of Mathematical Physics Erwin Schrödinger, the University of Bordeaux, Stanford University, the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton (2004), the California Institute of Technology (1997, 2001), the University of California at Los Angeles and the University of Paris VI .
