Content
Biography
Born June 29, 1761 in Paris . He entered the service on October 5, 1777 as a soldier in the Neustrian regiment. In 1794, Maler was awarded the rank of brigadier -adjutant general . He became a brigadier general on October 18, 1799 .
August 27, 1803 promoted to division generals and appointed commander of the 2nd unit of the 13th military district in Rennes . On October 31, 1804, he headed the infantry division in the Ney corps . On August 29, 1805, this division received the 3rd number in the 6th Army Corps of the Great Army . He took part in the campaigns of 1805 and 1806. He distinguished himself in the battles of Gunzburg (October 9, 1805) and Jena (October 14, 1806). October 21, 1806 passed the command of the division, and returned to France to rest. On December 25, 1805, the Great Officer of the Legion of Honor was awarded the badge.
Death
He was accidentally killed on March 13, 1808 during exercises in Valladolid . A ramrod forgotten by a soldier pierced his head in his weapon. May 10, 1808 posthumously promoted to Count of the Empire.
Memory
His heart is kept in the Pantheon , his name is engraved on the north side of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris . In 1886, the fort below Larmont near Pontarlier was renamed Fort Mahler .
