Botanical Description

Shrubs forming dense tufts. Horizontal trunks short, strongly branched; vertical flower stalks 4-12 cm tall. Leaves are linear or oblong-lanceolate, 5-12 (15) mm long, 0.5-1.5 (2) mm wide; pointed to both ends, sessile or with a very short petiole, with a maximum width near the middle; rigid and are not sickle-curved. Cilia at the edges of leaves do not rise to the middle of their length; in the axils of the stem leaves, the axillary leaves are usually underdeveloped, small or absent. Inflorescence capitate; calyx 3-3.5 (4) mm long, green, tubular-bell-shaped; the teeth of the upper lip of the calyx are naked, the cilia on the teeth of the lower lip are numerous (12-14 or more pairs), closely spaced, of the same length, shorter or equal to the width of the base of the tooth; with 10 veins, hairy in the throat, its lower lip is 2-separated, with lanceolate lobes, 2 rows of cilia covered on the sides, the upper lip is wide, usually 3-toothed or 3-separate, bent upwards; corolla with a straight tube, obscurely two-lipped, upper lip notched, lower lip 3-lobed; 4 stamens exposed from the corolla; ovoid nuts , almost smooth [4] .

Distribution and habitat

Range - Azov , Crimea , the European part of Russia.

In Russia

In Russia, the species is included in the Red Books of Belgorod, Kursk, Lipetsk and Rostov Regions [3] , grows on the territory of two specially protected natural territories of Russia : Belogorye and Galichya Gora [5] .

In Ukraine

Included in the Red Book of Ukraine [3] [6] .

By the decision of the Lugansk Regional Council No. 32/21 of December 3, 2009, the species is included in the “ List of Regionally Rare Plants of the Lugansk Region ” [7] [8] .
