Francis Pomeroy Naismith Prize

The Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award is the annual basketball award awarded to the best graduate of the year from the NCAA Basketball Tournament among students whose height does not exceed 183 cm (6 ft) for men and 173 cm (5 ft 8) inches) for women, the initial height of female students should not exceed 168 cm (5 ft. 6 in.), which when growing slightly below average show phenomenal skill. The prize is named after the adopted daughter of basketball creator James Naismith Francis Pomeroy, who he later legalized. The student award was established by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC ) and was first presented to Billy Keller of Purdue University in the 1968/69 season. The student award was established by the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA ) and was first awarded to Kim Malki of Louisiana University of Technology in the 1983/84 season.

The Francis Pomeroy Naismith Prize has recently been awarded only to basketball players who compete in the 1st Division of the National University Sports Association (NCAA) , although it was previously available to all divisions. Among men, John Rinka from Kenyon College (1970) and Mike Sheeb from Susquehanna University (1978) became winners from the 2nd and 3rd divisions, respectively, and among women, Julie Dabrowski from New Hampshire College (1990), Amy Dodrill (1995) ) and Angie Arnold (1998), both from Johns Hopkins University , were third-prize winners.

Students only representatives of the University of St. Johns , the University of California in Los Angeles , the University of Louisville won the honorary trophy twice. Students several times winners in this nomination were students of the University of Pennsylvania (3 times), the University of Connecticut , the University of Notre Dame , Johns Hopkins University , the University of Gonzag , and Baylor University (2 times each). The last recipients of the honorary award in the 2013/14 season were Russ Smith of Louisville University and Odyssey Sims of Baylor University.
