Biography

Sergei Laptev was born on October 6, 1906 in the village of Plotavets (now the Korochansky district of the Belgorod region ). After graduating from elementary school, he worked on the collective farm . In 1928 and 1938 - 1939 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. Participated in the Polish campaign . Since May 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War [1] .

By September 1943, the Red Army soldier Sergei Laptev was a carrier of the shells of the 494th Mining and Mortar Regiment of the 40th Army of the Voronezh Front . Distinguished during the battle for the Dnieper . In September 1943, Laptev, as part of a platoon of anti-tank guns, crossed the Dnieper near the village of Tripolye of the Obukhov district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR and took an active part in the battles to seize and hold a bridgehead on its western shore. While repelling another counter-attack, Laptev raised his platoon to attack and personally destroyed enemy soldiers and officers near the platoon. In that battle, he was seriously wounded, but continued to fight, destroying 3 tanks and 1 self-propelled artillery guns. After the second severe injury, he lost consciousness and was sent to hospital [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 24, 1943 for "courage, bravery and heroism shown in the struggle against the German invaders", Red Army man Sergei Laptev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 2734 [ 1] .

After the war, the rank of senior sergeant Laptev was demobilized. He lived and worked in his native village, led the farm, the collective farm . He died on December 26, 1972 [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War , 1st degree and a number of medals [1] .
