Roman Nikiforovich Lapin ( December 9, 1903 - February 4, 1991 ) - lieutenant colonel of the Soviet Army , participant in the Great Patriotic War , Hero of the Soviet Union ( 1945 ).

Biography
Roman Lapin was born on November 26 ( December 9 ), 1903 (according to other sources - 1901 [1] [2] ) in the village of Varvarovka, Biryuchensky district, Voronezh province (now Alekseevsky district of the Belgorod region ) [3] [4] . He graduated from elementary school. In 1920, Lapin was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . He participated in the battles of the Civil War (Southern Front, 465th Infantry Regiment of the 52nd Infantry Division). In 1922 he graduated from the Simferopol courses of red commanders, and in 1928 Lapin - Kiev infantry school. In 1937 he was sacked. In June 1941, Lapin was re-drafted into the army. In 1944, he graduated from accelerated courses at the Frunze Military Academy . Since August of the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War, he commanded the 685th Infantry Regiment of the 193th Infantry Division of the 65th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front . Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .
On January 14 - 15, 1945, Lapin's regiment successfully broke through the powerful German defense on the western bank of Narew in the vicinity of the town of Serock , after which he crossed the Vistula River near Grudziadz and captured the bridgehead on its western bank. Also, the Lapin regiment has repeatedly distinguished itself in the battles for the liberation of Gdansk , Szczecin and Plonsk [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 29, 1945 for “skillful command of the rifle regiment, exemplary performance of the command missions at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown”, Lt. Col. Roman Lapin was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 4952 [1] .
In 1947, Lapin was sacked. He lived in the city of Novy Oskol , was in charge of the city farm, then led the city council. He died on February 4, 1991, was buried in the Central cemetery of New Oskol [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the October Revolution , three orders of the Red Banner , orders of Suvorov 3rd degree and World War 1 degree, a number of medals and foreign awards [1] .
