Biography
Augustus Eichorn was born on July 27, 1878 in Vienna .
After receiving pedagogical education he worked as a teacher. After the end of the First World War, he was responsible for the creation of correctional schools in Hollanbrunn (1918) and St. Andre (1920). In 1920 he became interested in psychoanalysis and, at the invitation of Anna Freud , he graduated from the Vienna Psychoanalytic Institute. In 1923 he organized a network of youth educational centers in Vienna. One of the first psychoanalysts began working with aggressive adolescents in stationary conditions. In 1925 the most famous work of A. Ayhorn - “The Difficult Teenager ” is published.
In 1932 , A. Ayhorn retired and opened a private practice. During this period, A. Ayhorn undergoes a personal analysis of H. Kohut . After the Anschluss , in 1938 , he was arrested and exiled as a political prisoner in Dachau . At the suggestion of M. Goering , A. Ayhorn agreed to give lectures at the established Institute for Psychological Research and Psychotherapy in Berlin . During this period, A. Ayhorn organizes underground meetings of a small group of psychoanalysts, despite being under the supervision of the Gestapo .
After the end of the Second World War , in 1946 he revived the Vienna Psychoanalytic Society, which he led until his death. In 1947 , A. Ayhorn became an honorary member of the International Psychoanalytic Association and the Chicago Psychoanalytic Society.
On October 13, 1949 , Augustus Ayhorn passed away.
