Match progress
Before the match it rained for a long time, so the field was slippery and in some places was covered with puddles, and the ball was heavy. Bad weather did not stop the audience, whom about 70 thousand gathered in the stands.
Already in the 5th minute of the match, Stalin’s defender Mikhail Baryshev scored an own goal. Ten minutes later, George Lasin rolled the ball into the lower corner of the Spartak goal. At the 29th minute of the meeting, after a powerful shot by Viktor Semenov , Spartak came forward. At the very beginning of the second half, in the 50th minute, Alexey Sokolov sets the final score, 3: 1.
Here is how the course of the match was described by Yuri Vanyat and Konstantin Lemeshev : [1]
"Stalinist" played stronger than usual, especially in defense. Boris Grishchenko coped with the game, Alexei Lebedev managed to close Semenov quite tightly, Boris Ivin and especially Alexander Zyablikov played very strongly. The best in the attack was Viktor Smagin , who played, although rudely, but created many acute moments. The edges were weak, especially Nikolay Solovyov . For some reason, Alexei Larionov turned off the game.
At Spartak Vladislav Zhmelkov almost did not play, Viktor Sokolov left the best impression in defense, since Vasily played below his usual level. In the midfield, Konstantin Malinin and Andrei Starostin were the strongest. Andrei Protasov and Pavel Kornilov left a pale impression, rudeness prevented Alexei Sokolov , the team’s leading striker, Vladimir Stepanov overestimated his strength and often overexposed the ball. Victor Semenov was low-tech.
Half a month after the final, it was decided to replay the semifinal match of Moscow “Spartak” and Tbilisi “ Dynamo ”, which ended with the victory of Muscovites 1-0. In the replay, Spartak won again with a goal difference of 3: 2. The final match was decided not to replay. [2]
