Story

Background

In 1999, during a typhoon , Godzilla attacks Tateyama . He is opposed by special forces self-defense forces, but the monster destroys all weapons and the city itself. Few of the military units survive, Lieutenant Akane manages to survive the Godzilla attack. All charges are imposed on her, as she controlled maser weapons and was unable to get into Godzilla.

Key Events

Genetics doctor Tokumitsu Yuhara is summoned by the government to a secret technical laboratory where Prime Minister Igarashi shows him and several other most prominent Japanese scientists the skeleton of the first Godzilla, who was killed by scientist Serizawa in 1954 , and reveals his plans to create an ultra-powerful biorobot based on the skeleton. could defeat Godzilla. Tokumitsu initially rejects the job because she has to monitor her daughter Sarah at home, but the management makes concessions to him and allows the girl to spend part of her father’s work. Tokumitsu and Sarah meet Akane, who was appointed one of the pilots of the developed robot, Mehagodzilla, or Kiryu. Akane spends a lot of time alone, as other pilots believe that she can re-make a mistake, as in 1999, and destroy them all.

Work on the project "Mehagodzilla" are successful, and by 2003, a giant Kiryu combat vehicle was built. The robot moves with the help of super-fast batteries , and in case of lack of energy it can be recharged with electricity from an airplane. Kiryu’s arsenal includes war missiles, but its main weapon is the absolute zero system: a stream of freezing air. During field trials, using absolute zero, it turns out to freeze and destroy an entire skyscraper.

Just during the Kiryu demonstration, Godzilla appears in the ocean and heads for Tokyo Bay . The Security Control Center, led by the Prime Minister, sends Kiryu into battle. An emergency evacuation of the population takes place in nearby settlements, after which Kiryu engages in a fight with Godzilla. All types of missiles used do no harm to the lizard, but the maser beam is more effective. Godzilla is trying to retreat, Akane is preparing to use absolute zero from the plane, but the robot suddenly gets out of control. Godzilla dives into the ocean, and Kiryu suddenly begins to destroy the neighborhood, not obeying anyone's orders. He acts like Godzilla. Kiryu is knocked out by a control plane, Akane and the other pilots almost die. After an hour, the charge of energy in the batteries of the robot goes down, and Kiryu stops.

Tokyumitsu and his staff are trying to establish the cause of what happened and come to the conclusion that Kiryu did this because of the triggering of genetic memory after Godzilla growls. The entire robot system has to be redone. During the work, Tokumitsu disagrees with her daughter, who believes that it is wrong to force Kiryu to act against his will, because he once was also a living creature.

After some time, Godzilla is again declared in Tokyo Bay. In the absence of other options, Kiryu is again put up against the pangolin. Robot and Godzilla are struggling with varying success, but ultimately Godzilla almost defeats Kiryu. A malfunction occurs in the control system, and then Akane sneaks inside the robot to control it from the inside. With great difficulty, she manages to establish control. To save the distracting maneuver on the Hayama fighter, Akane directs Kiryu to Godzilla. The robot grabs the lizard, takes off and takes it to the sea, where it tries to freeze using absolute zero. However, Godzilla breaks a layer of ice and emerges to the surface with Kiryu. The robot now has no missile launchers and the right arm is broken off, but Godzilla was seriously injured. No further battle is possible. Akane goes outside and watches as Godzilla swims into the sea.

The scene after the credits shows how Akane is in the technical laboratory and faces the repaired Kiryu. Tokumitsu and Sarah come up to her, and the doctor invites Akane to dinner.

Movie Features

This is the second film about Godzilla directed by Masaaki Tezuki. He had previously shot Godzilla vs. Megagirus [1] , which is why Godzilla's appearance and soundtrack are similar to this film. Minor roles in "Godzilla vs. Mehagodzilla 3" went to Misato Tanaka and Toshiyuki Nagashima, who had previously starred in "Godzilla vs Megagirus."

In this film, Mechagodzilla has a much greater resemblance to the classic robot from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla ( 1974 ) than the eponymous robot from Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla-2 ( 1993 ).

  • The first scene with Tokumitsu shows a busy trilobite . This is a reference to the very first movie with Godzilla , where trilobite is also present.
  • Hideki Matsui, a Japanese baseball player, appeared in two episodes of the film and played himself .
  • Also, a minor role went to Takehiro Murate, who had previously starred in the movie Godzilla: The Millennium .
  • Besides the fact that Masaaki Tezuka was a director, he starred in the secondary role of his own film: he portrayed a maintenance employee who passes by Akane in the final scene after the credits.

Box office fees

The budget of the film amounted to ¥ 1 billion ( $ 8.5 million), while fees almost doubled the cost - ¥ 1.91 billion ($ 16 million) [2] .
