Player Career

Club

Lindgren began his career in 1981 in Sweden as part of the Drott Club. In 1990, he moved to Germany to join the Dutenhofen team (now Wetzlar), who played in the Second Bundesliga. In 1992 he returned to Drott, three years later he went back to Germany, where he played for the clubs Düsseldorf and Nordhorn.

Team

In the Swedish national team he played 376 games and scored 482 goals. Through his efforts, Lindgren brought his team three Olympic silver medals, four European Championship gold medals and two world championship gold medals.

Game Style

Initially, Lindgren played as a left-back, preferring to play on the defensive. In the team he was transferred to the position of an attacking player, and he became linear. Due to his physical parameters, he became one of the most productive players in the Swedish national team and one of the best handball players in the world.

Coach Career

From 1996 to 1998, Lindgren worked as a playing coach for Düsseldorf for some time, and from 2003 to 2009 he led the Nordhorn. In 2007, he joined the headquarters of the Swedish national team [2] , and in 2008, together with Staffan Olsson, he headed the national team and led it until 2016 [3] .

In the 2009/2010 season, Lindgren continued to combine club and national coaches, becoming a Rhine-Neckar Leuven mentor. In September 2010, he resigned as a team coach, but until June 2012 he remained de jure at the club headquarters, not having the right to change the team. Only in December 2011, by mutual agreement, he left the post of coach of the “Lions” [4] , in January 2012, having headed the domestic Kristianstad [5] . He worked at Kristianstad until 2019, after which he took up the position of head coach of the Finnish national team and the Egyptian Al Ahly.
