Geography

Located on the northwest coast of the island of Popov , which is part of the Shumagin archipelago . According to the US Census Bureau, the total area of ​​the city is 75.0 km², of which approximately 20.2 km² is land and 54.8 km² is water bodies.

The climate of the city is characterized as a polar oceanic. The warmest months of the year are July and August, with an average maximum of 14.2 ° C; the coldest month is February, with an average minimum of −2.8 ° C. The average annual rainfall is 1135 mm [3] .

Economics

Sand Point's economy is based on fishing and fish processing. The largest fishing fleet of the Aleutian Islands is based in the city [6] .

Attractions

Among the sights of the city can be noted the Orthodox chapel of St. Nicholas, built in the 1930s. In 1980, the chapel was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places .
