Biography
Born November 26, 1897 in St. Petersburg. Mother Mikhailov (maiden name Somova) Anna Andreevna - sister of the Russian artist Konstantin Andreevich Somov . Grandfather - senior curator of the Hermitage Andrei Ivanovich Somov . He studied at the gymnasium of Karl May .
He worked at the Leningrad factory “Soyuzkino” (formerly “Sovkino”) and “Belgoskino” . He happened to work with such outstanding masters of Soviet cinema as Grigory Kozintsev and Leonid Trauberg ("The Overcoat "), Eduard Johanson ("The Katka is a Paper Runet "), Friedrich Ermler . In the painting “ Parisian Shoemaker ” was not only an operator, but also a production designer. Mikhailov was also one of those who helped create the cinema of Belarus. So at “Belgoskino” he shot the films “The Return of Nathan Becker ” and “ Engineer Gough ” directed by Rachelie Milman , Boris Shpis .
Since 1918 he was repeatedly arrested (without charge). The latter was arrested after the outbreak of World War II, miraculously survived. After serving his term, he worked as a photographer at the Academy of Fine Arts. Leisure dedicated to restoring the history of the family, preserving materials about his famous grandfather and uncle. The materials he collected were published in the publication “Konstantin Andreyevich Somov. Letters. Diaries The judgments of contemporaries. " (Moscow: “Art”, 1979) where Mikhailov E. S. was the main inspiration for the idea, edited the letters and diaries included in the publication, and wrote an article about the artist himself. Evgeny Sergeevich transferred a number of materials about the history of the family to the Russian Museum.
He was buried at Volkovsky cemetery in St. Petersburg with his brother Dmitry.
