Albania Awards

The history of the Albanian awards is inextricably linked with the history of the country . The establishment of awards became possible with independence. The proclamation of the principality, headed by Wilhelm Weed, gave rise to the formation of the award system, the history of which can be divided into the following main stages:

The first awards of Albania were established almost immediately after the proclamation of the principality.

Italian Occupation Awards

During the occupation, on behalf of the King of Italy and Albania, Victor Emmanuel III, the orders of Skanderbeg and Fidelity were awarded. In both orders, an officer degree was introduced (intermediate between the degrees of commander and knight). The design of signs and order stars has undergone changes. Instead of oak leaves appeared fascia , roses and "Savoy knots" with the letters "FERT".

Albania People's Awards

With the end of World War II , a new award system begins to be created in Albania. Its formation was significantly influenced by the award system of the Soviet Union . In the image of the Soviet titles Hero of the Soviet Union and Hero of Socialist Labor , the Albanian titles National Hero and Hero of Socialist Labor were established. Almost a complete copy was a set of awards for mothers with many children, as well as the honorary titles "People's ..." and "Honored ...". A number of parallels with the Soviet award system can be seen in the names of awards and in their appearance.

Initially, the badges of awards were made in the USSR ( Mondvor ), SFRY (IKOM, Zagreb ), Poland ( Mennica Państwowa ), East Germany (Präwema, Markneukirchen), later its own production was mastered ^[1] .

Modern Awards

Badge of the Order of George Castrioti Skanderbeg

Awarding with state awards is the preserve of the president. Prizes can be awarded to citizens of Albania and foreigners, as well as legal entities.

The main provisions of the modern award system in Albania are enshrined in Law No. 8113 of March 28, 1996, “On the Insignia of the Republic of Albania”. The mentioned Law established 6 orders and 4 medals.
