San Vicente ( Spanish: San Vicente ) is a city and municipality in northern Colombia , in the Antioquia department. It is part of the East Antioquia subregion .

Content
History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded on October 3, 1759 . The municipality of San Vicente was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1814 . The name of the city is associated with the name of the Catholic saint, Dominican monk Vincent Ferrer .
Geographical position
The city is located in the eastern part of the department, in the highlands of Central Cordillera , about 22 kilometers east of Medellin , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 2000 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of San Vicente borders in the north with the municipality of Barbosa , in the northeast - with the municipality of Concepcion , in the east - with the municipality of El Peñol , in the south - with the municipalities of Marinilla and Rionegro , in the west - with the municipality of Guarne , in the north-west with the municipality of Girardot . The area of the municipality is 243 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 17,877 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men made up 50.9% of the population of San Vicente, women - 49.1%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 99.1% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raisals - 0.9% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 89.9%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of San Vicente is agricultural production .
47.4% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 41.5% are service enterprises, 8.3% are industrial enterprises, 2.8% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
