Haukivesi ( Fin. Haukivesi ) - a large lake in the northern part of the lake system of Saimaa . Located in the region of South Savo , Finland , 52-55 km from the border with the Republic of Karelia , Russia . It has glacial origin, a very rugged coastline, and many large and small islands [2] . The length of Haukivesi reaches about 80 km, the width in some places reaches 32 km. The total mirror area of Haukivesi reaches 562.31 km². The maximum depth reaches 75.8 meters. In the middle of the waters of Lake Haukivesi is the Linnansaari National Park . In the past, the lake, as well as the reservoirs surrounding it, served here as an important means of communication for residents of the St. Michel province . It is currently used for industrial and recreational purposes, including by tourists from Russia. In the south. part of the lake is the city of Savonlinna .
