Operclipygus variabilis (lat.) Is a species of small beetle-winged bugs from the family Histeridae ( Histerinae , Exosternini ). South America : Bolivia , Brazil , Ecuador (Orellana). Length 1.40-1.47 mm, width 1.03-1.06 mm. Pronotal disc with fragments of lateral submarginal grooves, usually present in the area of its anterior angles. The color is reddish brown. The species was first described in 2013 by entomologists Michael S. Caterino and Alexei Tischechkin ( Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History , Santa Barbara , USA ). The species O. variabilis was assigned to the group of species Operclipygus dubius , close to the species Operclipygus andinus and Operclipygus validus , differing in the structure of the genitalia [1] .
