Hypatopa phoebe (lat.) Is a species of small mole-shaped butterflies of the genus Hypatopa from the family gloomy moths ( Blastobasidae , Gelechioidea ). Endemic of Costa Rica ( Central America ). The length of the front wings is from 7.5 to 8.4 mm. The color of the front wings is pale brown with an admixture of brown scales; tendril scapus and proboscis grayish-brown; hind wings are pale brown. It has similarities with the species Hypatopa semela , differing from it in the details of the structure of the genitals. The species was first described in 2013 by the American lepidopterologist David Adamski (David Adamski, Department of Entomology, National Museum of Natural History , Smithsonian Institution , Washington ). The name of the species comes from the Latin word Phoebe (mythological goddess of the moon and grandmother of Apollo) [1] .
