Biography
Ivan Lazarev was born on September 9, 1918 in the village of Middle Kamyshinka (now the Kamyshin district of the Volgograd region ). After graduating from the irrigation and drainage college, he worked in the department of irrigation and land reclamation of the People's Commissariat of the Kalmyk ASSR . In August 1938, Lazarev entered the Balashov school of pilots of the Civil Air Fleet , but a year later this school was transformed into a military one. In 1940, Lazarev graduated from it, after which he remained in it as an instructor pilot. Since August 1942 - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Participated in the Battle of Stalingrad [1] .
By October 1944, Guard Captain Ivan Lazarev was deputy squadron commander of the 13th Guards Air Regiment of the 4th Guards Air Division of the 4th Guards Air Corps of the USSR ADD . By that time, he had made 228 sorties to bombard accumulations of military equipment and enemy manpower, its important objects in the rear. In a battle near Budapest, he personally shot down 3 enemy aircraft, but he was also shot down and forced to parachute, after which he returned to the location of his unit [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of November 5, 1944, for “the courage, dedication and high efficiency of the use of military weapons” of the guard, Captain Ivan Lazarev was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 5125 [1] .
On December 23, 1944, the Lazarev plane was shot down over the city of Gyor . The pilot made it possible for the crew to parachute, but he himself was killed [1] .
He was awarded two orders of Lenin, two orders of the Red Banner , a number of medals. Forever enrolled in the lists of personnel of the military unit [1] .
Streets in Ivanovo and Kamyshin are named in honor of Lazarev, busts are installed in Iskitim and Kamyshin [1] .
