Sluts parade

First Sluts Parade in Toronto , April 3, 2011

The Slut Parade ( SlutWalk ) is an international protest march against the culture of rape [1] . It was first held on April 3, 2011 [2] in the Canadian city of Toronto , the capital of the province of Ontario , after which several similar marches occurred in other countries of the world [3] .

The participants and marchers are protesting against the stereotype that justifies the behavior of the abuser by the defiant or too attractive appearance of the victim [4] , and call for an end to the culture of rape [5] .

The reason for the first march was the statement of the Toronto Constable Michael Sanginetti, who said that if women do not want to be raped, they “should not dress like whores” [6] [7] .

The protest took the form of a march, the participants of which were mostly young women, some specially dressed up in costumes resembling the "working clothes" of prostitutes.

During the Parade of Sluts around the world, seminars and rallies are usually held, live music is played, volunteers make posters and flyers, discussions are held at open microphones, sing songs, dance, compete in martial arts, hold events and parties with snacks [1] [ 8] . Often, during a meeting, victims of violence share their memories [9] .

Critics believe that this approach is an example of how women define their sexuality in terms of male culture [10] , and protest turns into pornography [11] [12] .
