Friedrich Adolf Sorge ( German: Friedrich Adolf (Adolph) Sorge ; November 9, 1828, Betau , Prussia - October 26, 1906, Hoboken (New Jersey) , USA) - German socialist .

He was born in an intelligent family of free-thinking priest of the Lutheran pastor Georg Wilhelm Sorge [3] .

Having received a musical education thanks to his mother, he became a music teacher [4] .

Member of the revolution of 1848-1849 in Germany . After the defeat of the revolutionary detachments, he hid in Switzerland, Belgium, emigrated to England, then to America [5] .

In 1852 he met with Karl Marx [4] .

In 1857, together with other German emigrants, he founded the Communist Club in New York and became one of its leaders [4] .

Member and secretary of the General Council of the First International in 1872–1874, organizer of its sections in America, one of the founders of the Socialist Workers Party of North America (1876–1877).

Together with Engels , August Bebel and Wilhelm Liebknecht since 1881 he collaborated in the social democratic newspaper Die Neue Zeit (New Time), published in Stuttgart.

Eduard Aveling wrote that Sorge was “one of the closest friends of Marx and Engels in the later years of their life” [6] .
