The Little Asian frog [2] [3] , or the Caucasian frog [3] , or the Transcaucasian frog [3] ( lat. Rana macrocnemis ), is a species of tailless amphibian from the family of real frogs (Ranidae) [4] .

Description
Body length up to 9 cm; body color is variable, more often the top is light brown with dark spots, and the belly is pink. Distributed from Asia Minor to the Caucasus, in the north-west of Iran; An isolated population is described in Turkmenistan - in the Kopetdag mountain system [4] . The Little Asian frog is included in the Red Book of the Krasnodar Territory in category 3 - a rare species.
Habitat and lifestyle
Found at altitudes up to 2400 m above sea level . It inhabits all types of biocenoses in the forest, subalpine and alpine zones. In the subalpine and alpine zones, frogs are active in the daytime and evening hours. In the forest belt, they are active around the clock, with a peak of activity between 22 hours and 1 hour of the night. The diet includes aquatic insects and their larvae, crustaceans, mollusks and worms [5] .
The determining factors of population density are the temperature regime and the thickness of the snow cover during the wintering period. Influencing factors also include anthropogenic impact.
