History

The song was first performed in 1959 by the American singer and pianist Neil Sedaka . In the same year, she was released on the second side of the single “ Oh! Carol .

The authors are American musicians Jack Keller and Hank Hunter. On the records, released in the USSR, Neil Sedak was often mistakenly mentioned as the author of the music [1] . In 1961, the song entered the track list of his third studio album, Sings Little Devil and His Other Hits , but was never released as a separate single .

The song gained fame thanks to the performance of the British disco group Irapshn for their second album “Leave a Light”. In the first half of 1979, the song became a European hit, topping the charts in Austria and Switzerland.

In Japan, the song is known by the singer Hirao Masaaki, who is called Japanese Elvis. The song in the Japanese version is called 恋 の 片 道 切 符 ( koi-no katamichi kippu , "The Train Choo-Choo Song"). The song is mentioned in Kobo Abe's novel Woman in the Sands .

Russian cover version

In 1969, the poet Albert Azizov wrote the Russian text [2] . He had nothing to do with the English original and was called "Blue, blue frost."

In this version, the song was performed by the vocal-instrumental ensembles “ Singing Guitars ” [3] , Hello, song [4] , Anne Veski (in Russian and Estonian (“Viimne pilet”; author of the Estonian text Jaak Veski)), singer Valeria , group “Prime Minister” (since 2004), “Guests from the Future” group , Professor Lebedinsky and “Russian Size” group . In 1997, the punk group " Red Mold " recorded a parody of their performance under the name "Drunk hedgehog."

In 1978 a group of Irapshn released a cover version of the song, which came in first place in many national charts [5] [6] . The fact that in the USSR the song gained fame earlier contributed to the spread among the people of the erroneous opinion that it was created in our country.

The song has repeatedly sounded in various films, television programs and commercials. Singer Sofia Rotaru performed for the New Year's Eve on the First -2009 her cover version of the song - “Let everything be”.

The song “Blue Frost” is mentioned in the song “The Color of Mood Blue ” by Philip Kirkorov .
