About composition
The theme of the song is a feeling of disappointment, including disappointment in the music industry, which is a "machine for making money" and leaves no room for real artistic creation. According to the music critic, “ Waters felt that the personalities behind the companies were nothing more than industrial fat cats that profit from the welfare of artists without love or reverence for the music itself ” [3] .
The next track “ Have a Cigar ” on the second side of the album is dedicated to the same topic. Later, Roger Waters will once again return to this topic in the album The Wall (1979).
Video
The famous animator Gerald Scarfe created a full-length music video for this composition, which, along with other animation clips, was shown on a large round screen during the concert tour “In the Flesh” (1977), as well as in subsequent concerts Pink Floyd. This video begins with the movement of a strange mechanism that resembles a cross between an armadillo and a triceratops .
