History
In 1839, the city government of Pilsen decided to build its own brewery, which would brew beer using Bavarian technology, since at that time the Bavarians were legislators in brewing and experimented with bottom fermentation, which made it possible to obtain a more transparent beer with an improved taste. So in the city there was a brewery, which is now known as Plzeňský Prazdroj .
Josef Groll , a Bavarian brewer, was invited to lead the brewery. In October 1842, he introduced the first batch of beer brewed using new brewing and light malt technologies. The combination of light malt, selected hops from the surroundings of атatec , characteristic of Pilsen's extremely soft water , as well as the bottom-fermentation technology borrowed from Bavaria, made it possible to obtain a transparent beer with a golden hue, which immediately became a real sensation.
A new type of beer quickly won fans across Europe, the key elements of its production were soft water and special hops. In 1859, the Pilsen Chamber of Commerce and Industry registered the Pilsner Bier trademark, and in 1898 the Pilsner Brewery began producing beer under the Pilsner Urquell trademark, which literally translates from German as the Pilsner Source and emphasizes that it is its products that are the original Pilsner.
Modern Pilsner
Today, Pilsner is the most common type of camp beer. The necessary conditions for the production of this Pilsner are the use of light malt, soft water and, most importantly, атatec hops . The most famous are Czech and German varieties, which are mainly distinguished by increased hop bitterness, as well as Belgian and Dutch, which are often characterized by a somewhat sweetish flavor.
Nowadays, some breweries, primarily North American ones, use the term Pilsner or Pils in the name of their own beers to emphasize their premium quality, even if they are not made using the ingredients inherent in this type of beer and the taste is not characteristic of the classic pilsner.
