Biography
Ivan Lavrik was born on July 15, 1922 in the village of Cheremushnaya (now the Valkovsky district of the Kharkov region of Ukraine ). After graduating from high school, he studied at the Kharkov Engineering College. In July 1941, Lavrik was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1942, he graduated from the Kharkov Artillery School at an accelerated rate. Since September of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. Participated in the Battle of Stalingrad and Kursk . By September 1943, the guard , Lieutenant Ivan Lavrik, commanded a fire platoon of the 158th Guards Artillery Regiment of the 78th Guards Rifle Division of the 7th Guards Army of the Steppe Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .
On September 26, 1943, a platoon of Lavrik crossed the Dnieper in the vicinity of the village of Domotkan, Verkhnedneprovsky District, Dnipropetrovsk Region, Ukrainian SSR . Having captured the Glinsk-Borodaevsky island, the platoon opened fire on enemy positions on the west coast, destroying 5 machine guns and several dozen soldiers and officers, which contributed to the successful capture and holding of the bridgehead by infantry. Having crossed to this bridgehead, Lavrik's platoon, together with rifle units, defended the bridgehead. On September 27, 1943, Lavrik was wounded in battle, but continued to fight [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 26, 1943, for the “courage and heroism shown when crossing the Dnieper and holding the bridgehead on its right bank” of the guard, the younger lieutenant Ivan Lavrik was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal under the number 3528 [1] .
After the war, Lavrik was sacked. He lived in Kharkov , worked as the director of the factory apprenticeship school. In July 1949, Lavrik was re-drafted into the army. In 1977, with the rank of colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He returned to Kharkov, worked in a construction trust. He died on November 4, 1993, was buried in the Kharkov city cemetery No. 2 [1] .
He was also awarded the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree and two orders of the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
