Pitheciinae (lat.) - a subfamily of monkeys from the sakas clade family of wide-nosed monkeys (Platyrrhini). Contains three genera and more than twenty species. The inhabitants of the forests of the northern and central parts of South America east of the Andes . Primates of medium or small size, covered with coarse wool. Part of the face in some species is free of hair. The tail is covered with wool. Daytime animals well adapted for movement in tree branches. Communication through sound is developed. There are fruits and insects in the diet. Pregnancy lasts from 5 to 6 months, usually one cub in the litter.
