Blue nan

Blue Nan is a German wine brand launched by H. Sichel Söhne ( Mainz ) in 1923 with the harvest of 1921, and which may have been the largest international wine brand from the 1950s to the 1980s. For most of its existence, Blue Nan was the only German wine that until the late 1990s was classified as Liebfraumilch , but now this name is used for a whole assortment of wines of different origin. When it was created, the label for it was developed by the most consumer-friendly alternative to countless wine labels with gothic writing and intricate names. By opening his office in the United Kingdom in 1927, Sichel noted the target export market. Since the 1950s, Blue Nan has been advertised as a wine that can be consumed throughout the meal, thereby eliminating the often frightening problem of combining wine and food. It can be argued that Blue Nan was the first wine that was produced and sold effectively, taking into account the international mass market.

After World War II, the brand became extremely popular in the United Kingdom and in the United States , selling at the same price as the second most popular Bordeaux red wine. At the peak of its popularity in 1984-1985, annual sales in the United States were 1.25 million boxes, with 750,000 boxes sold in the rest of the world. [one]
