In 1580, Tadaoki took possession of the province of Tango. Soon after, he married Grace ( 1562–1600 ), the daughter of Akechi Mitsuhide , known for her commitment to the Christian faith. In 1582, Aketi Mitsuhide rebelled against his lord Oda Nobunaga and besieged him in the Honno-ji temple in the capital. Oda Nobunaga was forced to commit hara-kiri . Before the Battle of Sekigahara, Ishida Mitsunari attempted to take Grazia hostage with the families of other daimyo in Osaka , but Grace chose to die according to her husband’s wishes rather than being taken prisoner.

In the same 1600, he received the Nakatsu Khan domain in Buzen province as a reward from the winner. In 1602, Tokugawa Ieyasu granted Tadaoki Kokura Khan in Buzen Province with an income of 370,000 koku rice.
