From childhood, she was a servant in the family house of Marx von Westfalen’s future wife, her mother sent Elena Demuth to a young couple in 1846 [2] .
Since 1837 and until the death of Marx's wife in 1881, except for the first few months of her married life, Elena Demuth and Jenny von Westfalen lived together constantly.
In 1852, Demuth gave birth to a child. Some believe that Karl Marx was his father, although this is not certain [3] .
After the death of Jenny von Westfalen in December 1881 and Marx on March 14, 1883 Elena Demuth moved to Friedrich Engels and led his household.
In October 1890, Demuth was diagnosed with cancer, and the following month she died at 69 years of age. In accordance with Jenny Marx's wish, she was buried in Highgate Cemetery , in the same grave as Marx spouses.
