Biography

Fedor Kustov was born on March 14, 1904 in the village of Maly Vethi (now - Poshekhonsky district of the Yaroslavl region ). After leaving school of the second stage he worked as an accountant. In 1926 - 1927 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1931, Kustov graduated from advanced training courses for reserve personnel. Since the beginning of World War II - on its fronts.

In February-March 1943, Major Kustov, deputy commander of the 1312th Infantry Regiment of the 17th Infantry Division , participated in the Zhizdrinskaya operation .

Since August 1943, Lieutenant Colonel Fyodor Kustov commanded the 1314th Rifle Regiment of the 17th Infantry Division ( Western Front , 50th Army , 38th Rifle Corps - on July 1, 1943, the Bryansk Front , 3rd Army , 80th Rifle Corps - on October 1, 1943, the Belarusian Front , 3rd Army - on January 1, 1944, the 1st Belorussian Front , 48th Army , 53rd Rifle Corps - on 06/01/1944.

He distinguished himself during the liberation of the Byelorussian SSR [1] .

On June 26, 1944, the Kustov regiment successfully captured important German strongholds in the Zhlobin district of the Gomel region . Within three days, the regiment repelled ten German counterattacks, destroying about 400 enemy soldiers and officers and a large number of its military equipment, seized 5 artillery pieces, 11 mortars, 14 machine guns, 10 cars [1] .

By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 23, 1944, for “skillful command of the rifle regiment, exemplary performance of the command missions at the front of the struggle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown at the same time”, Lt. Col. Fyodor Kustov was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union [2] with presentation of the Order of Lenin and the Golden Star medal number 3090 [1] .

In 1946, Kustov was sacked. He lived and worked in Kirov. He died on February 24, 1972 [1] .

He was also awarded two Orders of the Red Banner (12/05/1943 [3] , February 10, 1945 [4] ) and the Order of Alexander Nevsky (4/10/1943 [5] ), along with a number of medals [1] .
