Biography

Ivan Kuryatnik was born on February 12, 1919 in the village of Ulanovo (now - Glukhovsky district of Sumy region of Ukraine ). After graduating from incomplete secondary school, he worked as a mechanic in Voroshilovgrad (now Lugansk ), in parallel with work, was engaged in an aero club. In 1937, the Coop was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1938, he graduated from the Voroshilovgrad Military Aviation Pilot School. Since November 1941 - on the fronts of World War II [1] .

By October 1942, Senior Lieutenant Ivan Kuryatnik commanded the link of the 751th Air Regiment of the 17th Air Division of the USSR Airborne Division. By that time, he had made 103 sorties on the bombardment of clusters of military equipment and manpower of the enemy, his important objects in the deep rear [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of December 31, 1942, for “exemplary performance of command missions at the front of the battle against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown”, Senior Lieutenant Ivan Kuryatnik was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union [2] with the award of the Order of Lenin and Gold Star medal number 785 [1] .

After the war, the Coop continued to serve in the Soviet Army. In 1947, he graduated from advanced training courses for officers. Tragically died on September 24, 1952 in a plane crash during a training flight. He was buried in a cemetery in the city of Soltsy, Novgorod Region [1] .

He was also awarded two orders of the Red Banner , orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree [3] and the Red Star [4] , and a number of medals [1] .
