Biography

Born on October 28, 1895 in the village of Stary Studenets (now Samara Region ).

Drafted into the army in May 1915, was a non-commissioned officer, commanded a platoon of the 143rd infantry regiment . He entered the Red Army in November 1918, participated in the Civil War and was commander of a company and a battalion.

During the Spanish Civil War in 1938, he volunteered for Spain, and commanded the international tank regiment of the Republican Army [1] under the pseudonym Antonio Llanos [2] . On October 13, 1937, the regiment received baptism of fire on BT-5 tanks. He was awarded the medal " For Courage " and the Order of the Red Banner .

During the Soviet-Finnish war he was the commander of the 34th light tank brigade . At the end of December 1939, together with the 18th Infantry Division, the brigade was encircled near Pitkäranta . The situation of those surrounded was gradually getting worse. On February 21, 1940, the encryption was received from the brigade commander S. I. Kondratiev: “Help, we are starving to death” [3] .

In February 1940, Kondratyev was informed that he was awarded another Order of the Red Banner. On the night of February 28, the remains of the 34th Panzer Brigade and the 18th Rifle Division broke out of the encirclement. But on the eve of the encirclement, they were given a coding that the commander of the 44th Infantry Division Vinogradov , Commissar Pakhomenko and Chief of Staff Volkov were shot before the formation because the division, being surrounded by Suomussalmi , could not escape and left the military equipment. Kondratiev, the commissar of the brigade Gaponyuk, the chief of staff of the brigade, Colonel Smirnov, the commissar of the 18th Israeli division on the day of the breakthrough, shot themselves in the headquarters dugout. The body of Kondratiev was transferred by the Finnish command to the Soviet representatives on March 15, 1940, after the end of the war. He was buried in South Lemetti .

Family

His wife, Vera Isidorovna Kondratieva, worked at the Military Artillery Academy during the war, and before retiring in 1995, she worked as a senior scientific editor at the Nauka publishing house.
