Canaan is a largely residential area and is part of the developing Tobago area, Canaan-Bonaccord, which benefits from proximity to the airport and the main highway, Milford Road, which leads to the capital, Scarborough .
Village roads are part of a grid located on the north side of Milford. Most of the streets lead north to south and connect Milford Road to the Guy Street parallel highway.
