Biography

Jean-Pierre Gatrot was born on September 6, 1763 in the city of Montauban , now located in the territory of the Department of Tarn and Garonne . He studied at the University of Montpellier , in 1786 received the degree of doctor of medicine.

He worked in a hospital in Montauban, he also studied botany from the famous scientist Antoine Guan . In 1789, he published a book with descriptions of plants growing near Montauban, providing many types of binomial names previously described by Linnaeus, based on the earlier polynomial names of Tournefort , Baugin and Tabernemontan .

On September 28, 1794, Jean-Pierre Gatrot passed away.
