Biography
Born on October 12, 1973. In 1996 he graduated from the Faculty of Economics of USU . Since 1996, he has been engaged in the advertising and information business. In 2005, takes part in the creation of the Ural Guild of Advertising Producers, in 2006 and 2007. He holds the post of chairman of the Council of this organization.
In 2009, he was elected chairman of the Ural branch of the Yabloko party, and in the same year he became a deputy of the Yekaterinburg City Council [2] .
Married, two children. The second son was born in January 2015, while Petlin was in custody [3] .
Criminal Case
He became widely known after the trial, in which he was convicted and imprisoned for extortion [4] . Petlin supporters consider this a reprisal and call him a political prisoner [5] . He organized rallies of Yekaterinburg residents against illegal development , and he was charged with extorting money from developers for stopping the rallies.
Petlin was on the list of 39 political prisoners whose release is required by organized opposition representatives from the Russian president [6] . Petlin’s release on August 20, 2015 [7] .
Further career
After his release, Petlin told the press that for 6 years, until his conviction was extinguished, he would not run for deputy. In December 2015, Igor Yakovlev, spokesman for Grigory Yavlinsky, announced that Petlin had become a member of the Yabloko federal bureau [1] .
In June 2017, appeared on the media agenda, commenting on the scandal with the nomination of the Yabloko party to the governors of the Sverdlovsk region, Yevgeny Roizman . Petlin told the press that he was not convinced of the constructiveness of this idea and could abstain when the Bureau voted on this issue (the press associates this skepticism with obscene blog entries about Roizman in Roizman’s blog) [8] .
