San Francisco ( Spanish: San Francisco ) is a city and municipality in northern Colombia , in the Antioquia department. It is part of the East Antioquia subregion .

History
The settlement from which the city later grew was founded in 1830 . The municipality of San Francisco was separated into a separate administrative unit in 1986 . The name of the city is associated with the name of St. Francis of Assisi .
Geographical position
The city is located in the southeastern part of the department, in the highlands of Central Cordillera , approximately 55 kilometers east-southeast (ESE) from Medellin , the administrative center of the department. The absolute height is 1160 meters above sea level [1] .
The municipality of San Francisco borders in the north with the municipality of San Luis , in the northwest with the municipality of Kokorna , in the west, south and east with the municipality of Sonson , in the northeast with the municipality of Puerto Trunfo . The area of the municipality is 373 km² [2] .
Population
According to the National Administrative Department of Statistics of Colombia, the total population of the city and municipality in 2012 was 5625 people [3] . The dynamics of the population of the municipality by years:

According to the 2005 census, men accounted for 51.2% of the San Francisco population, women - 48.8%, respectively. Racially, whites and mestizos accounted for 99.9% of the city's population; Negroes , mulattoes and Raysals - 0.1% [4] . The literacy rate of the entire population was 75.4%.
Economics
The basis of the economy of San Francisco is agricultural production and tourism . Livestock is developed.
70.5% of the total number of urban and municipal enterprises are trade enterprises, 24.8% are service enterprises, 3.4% are industrial enterprises, 1.3% are enterprises of other sectors of the economy [4] .
