J-FEST ( J-fest) - the festival of Japanese modern culture. The motto of the festival - Japan for all. Initially called the "Festival of Japanese pop culture ." Held in Moscow since 2009. The main organizer is the Japanese Embassy in Russia [1] with the support of the Moscow government , a group of Japanese sponsoring companies, cultural public organizations and foundations, and information partners [2] .

In 2012, more than 15 thousand people visited the festival [4] , in 2013 - 16 thousand [5] .
Content
History
From 2003 to 2009, the Moscow Anime Festival was held as part of the annual Japanese Monthly Cultural Festival “Japanese Autumn”. In 2009, in order to promote cultural diplomacy and more fully present the pop culture of Japan, it was included in a larger format called the “Festival of Japanese Pop Culture”. The recruit of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, content-media producer Takamasa Sakurai, popularizer and a great expert on youth culture in Japan, became one of the main “engines” who began to put it into action. He did not come to Moscow alone, inviting as a special guest the Japanese model Misako Aoki, representing the Lolita style and appointed by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the Ambassador of Kawaii . First Japanese Pop Culture Festival
The first festival was held under the banner "Festival of Japanese pop culture [7] ". It itself took place on November 4, 2009, its 8th Moscow anime festival continued its cultural thematic program on November 7–8 . The venue was chosen Central House of Entrepreneur with a stage of the cinema "35 millimeters." The entrance was declared free, but the number of visitors exceeded all expectations [8] .

Second "Festival of Japanese Pop Culture" (2010)
The second festival of Japanese pop culture 2010, has already been extended to two days and took place on November 20-21, 2010 [9] . Like last year, it was held at the CDP, but the attendance remembering past experience, this time (and later), was limited to entry fees. According to the head of the information department of the Japanese embassy, Mr. Akira Imamura, the festival was attended by about 5 thousand people [10] . The festival program was also significantly expanded. In the lobby, a lot of sponsor companies' booths, shops with relevant themes and Japanese cuisine were presented [11] [12] .

Third J-FEST 2011 Festival of Contemporary Japanese Culture
The third festival took place on November 19-20, 2011. He not only changed the name to
"J-FEST Festival of Modern Japanese Culture", but also a venue. This time it was held at the Central House of Artists . The organizers decided to present a large-scale program for people of all ages with very different interests and aesthetic preferences, not limited to a youth audience. As noted in the press releases , This festival was a peculiar gesture of gratitude from Japan in response to the considerable assistance that Russia provided in the aftermath of the March earthquake in the Tohoku region.
