Biography
Born into the family of cantor Boruch-Gershon Zilberts and Fanny Eisenberg . At the age of nine, he began to sing in his father’s choir. As a child, he studied the violin. He graduated in 1903 from the Warsaw Conservatory , where he studied piano and musical composition.
In 1903-1906 he was the conductor of the Jewish ensemble "Ha-Zamir" in Lodz . In 1908-14, conductor of the Moscow Synagogue Choir. In 1914 he returned to Lodz , led the Jewish ensemble "Ha-Zamir" in Lodz. While in this post, he expanded the traditional repertoire of the choir, including the oratorios of J. Haydn and F. Mendelssohn .
In 1920 he emigrated to the United States . He founded the Jewish ensemble in Newark . In 1925 he organized and led the Silberts Choral Society in New York , and in 1930 - the Silberts Choral Society in Newark . Zilberts-led choirs performed in the most prestigious halls of New York : Carnegie Hall and Town Hall.
Author of liturgical music, Jewish songs, arranger of Jewish folk tunes. The cantata "Jacob's Dream" written in 1934 and the collection "Synagogue Music" published in 1943 are considered the most significant.
