Ejaculation

The structure of the male genital organs

Ejaculation ( Latin ejaculatio - ejection, eruption; synonym for ejaculation ) - the release of seminal fluid from the urethra in men during sexual intercourse or forms of sexual activity that replace it ( masturbation , blowjob , petting , pollutions , etc.). It is a complex reflex act, the center of which is in the lumbar spinal cord. In addition, paracentral lobes of the brain play a role in the regulation of the ejaculation process. A sharp increase in sexual arousal during stimulation of the penis during frictions usually leads to ejaculation and an closely related orgasm [1] . Usually accompanied by an orgasm . May occur spontaneously during sleep (pollution).

After ejaculation, the blood supply to the penis begins to decrease and the erection gradually weakens.

Preejaculation

A pre - ejaculate is a clear, colorless, viscous pre-seeded fluid that is released from the urethra of the penis of a man to the outside when he comes into a state of sexual arousal. The pre-ejaculate is secreted by the man also during masturbation , in preparation for sexual intercourse or at the early stage of copulation, some time before the man reaches orgasm completely and he has an ejaculation.

Ejaculation phases

The stages of male ejaculation

The ejaculation process consists of two phases:

  • removing the seed into the prostate of the urethra from the epididymis;
  • discharge of seminal fluid from the urethra.

The first (emission) phase of the ejaculatory reflex is under the control of the sympathetic nervous system . The second phase (eruption of the seed from the urethra) is controlled by the spinal reflex at the level of the roots of the spinal cord S2-S4. The transmission of a nerve impulse, ensuring the completion of ejaculation, occurs along the shame nerve . After the completion of ejaculation, a refractory period begins during which the repeated achievement of ejaculation is impossible or difficult.

Emission phase

During the emission phase of the ejaculation process, the smooth muscles of the seminiferous tubules of the testicular appendages ( vas deferens ) are reduced, as a result of which sperm erupts from the appendages of the testicles and reaches the broad upper ampullar part of the vas deferens. The onset of the emission phase is usually accompanied by a feeling of the inevitability of ejaculation. Then the sperm passes through the ejaculatory tract, mixing with the fluid from the seminal vesicles , prostate and bulbourethral glands , as a result of which the seed or ejaculate is formed [2] .

Seed Ejection Phase

During the ejection phase, the previously formed ejaculate is ejected from the urethra with the help of rhythmic contractions of the smooth muscles of the so-called bulbospongial muscle [2] . These rhythmic contractions are part of the male orgasm . After the onset of orgasm, the seed is jerkily ejected from the urethra, the second and third (and sometimes the first, depending on the physiology of the man) ejections are performed with maximum volume and strength, which also corresponds to the peak of orgasm achievement in mentally healthy men. Then the volume and force of the ejection gradually decrease, the head of the penis gains sensitivity, and the last few “shocks” can be empty contractions, in which additional ejection of the seed no longer occurs. A typical male orgasm consists of 10-15 contractions of the bulbospongial muscle, each of which is accompanied by extremely physiologically pleasant sensations in the body of a man. After the first contraction of the bulbospongial muscle has occurred, no action can prevent further ejaculation (although the accompanying orgasm may be disrupted). The frequency of muscle contractions gradually decreases during orgasm. Initial contractions occur on average every 0.6 s, with a gradual increase in the duration of the contraction and the interval between contractions by about 0.1 s per contraction. The contractions of this muscle in most men occur rhythmically, regularly throughout the entire time of orgasm. Many men may also experience irregular additional contractions at the end of orgasm. [3]

Seed content

Sertoli cells , which nourish, protect and support the normal development of maturing sperm, secrete fluid into the testicular tubules of the testes, which, in addition to nourishing and protecting young sperm, helps transport them to the vas deferens. The vas deferens contain special cubic cells with microvilli and lysosomal granules, which absorb part of the fluid, changing the chemical composition of sperm. [four]

Ejaculation characteristics

Volume

The ejection force and the amount of ejaculate in different men varies significantly. Normal ejaculation usually results in the release of 1.5 to 5 milliliters of seed, although such quantities as 7, 8, and in rare cases even 10 ml have been recorded [5] . Some urological diseases, such as epididymitis of the epididymis, can enhance the libido of a man, thereby increasing the volume of his ejaculate.

The volume of seminal fluid, the force of its expulsion during orgasm, as well as the capacity of sperm usually reach their peak by 17-18 years, and begin to decline after 45-55 years, but, unlike the female reproductive system, the male does not lose its fitness, and even a seventy-year-old man can conceive with the right combination of circumstances.

Ejaculate quality

The amount of sperm in the ejaculate also varies significantly from man to man, and depends on many factors, such as: the period of time that has passed since the previous ejaculation, testicular temperature, man’s age, testosterone level, his nutrition and water metabolism, and the total volume of seed. A pathologically low sperm count in the ejaculate is called oligozoospermia . An unusually small amount of seed ejected during ejaculation is called oligospermia . The complete absence of sperm in sperm is called azoospermia . There is also asthenozoospermia - a decrease in the number of motile forms, as well as the speed of movement of sperm in the semen.

Satisfaction

Each contraction of the bulbospongial muscle is accompanied by a wave of sexual pleasure (orgasm), with especially strong sensations in the penis, head and lower body. The first and second contractions are usually accompanied by the most intense sensation of pleasure and the ejection of the greatest amount of seed. Subsequent contractions tend to result in less additional ejection of the seed and are accompanied by a less intense sensation of pleasure. The degree of orgasm is directly related to the amount of sperm secreted. In mentally unhealthy men, when ejaculating, the orgasm can be late, or even completely absent.

Ejaculation problems

Premature ejaculation

Ejaculation is considered (absolutely) premature if it occurs before or immediately after intromission (insertion of the penis into the vagina ) and relatively premature if it does not allow sexual satisfaction of the partner [6] (it is called relative because it can be caused by inhibited sexual reactions of a woman). These ideas are largely associated with the traditional denial of various manifestations of sexual activity, except for vaginal sex , which can lead a woman to orgasm. The cause of premature ejaculation may be a long period of sexual withdrawal [7] .

Belated ejaculation

Although the term “delayed ejaculation” itself can be used in medicine, most often we are talking about the inability of a man to achieve an orgasm due to various psychological factors. In such cases, even with the onset of orgasm, the amount of ejaculate may not be sufficient for conception (contrary to popular belief, “the longer, the more”), and certain exercises, physical or psychological, may be recommended to the patient to facilitate the proper orgasm. Often, Kama Sutra poses are recommended for this.

Aborted Friction Technique

Some men, seeking to achieve maximum orgasm, can train in themselves the ability to interrupt sexual intercourse as it approaches, thereby holding the ejaculate at the exit to the urethra and delaying the onset of orgasm. Nevertheless, this technique can affect the manifestation of problems associated with ejaculation, as well as atrophy of the bulbospongial muscle or cause prostatitis.

In fiction

Fiction of different eras and cultures, describing sexual intercourse, turned to various aspects of the ejaculation process. So, the fact that men after ejaculation can feel sleepy was reflected in the XIV song of Homer ’s Iliad ( Zeus , having enjoyed love with Hero , falls asleep). In erotic scenes of modern literature, a description of a physiological act is often associated with a description of the accompanying emotional and psychological experiences.

In pornography

The "classic" end of a pornographic video is the ejaculation of a man, which is usually shown close-up. In pornography, there are several tricks that focus on the process of ejaculation:

  • pearl necklace ;
  • ejaculation on the face ;
  • bukkake .
