About song

There are two versions of the song. The first one is version 7, which became a landscape album after it was included in the Speak & Spell album, released in October 1981. The second is version 12, remix. This version differs from the album version in that it has a slightly different introduction (there are much more “knocks” in it), and additional synthesizer parts are also added to the middle part of the song. A remix version will subsequently appear on the American version of Speak & Spell .

The single debuted at the UK Singles Chart on the 27th line [3] , and five weeks later it was already on the 11th [4] . On June 25, 1981, New Life was performed by the band during their debut in the Top Of the Pops musical program on the BBC channel. In this show, the band performed this song twice more - on July 16 and 30.

The “B” side is occupied by “Shout!” - the first song of Depeche Mode, which was introduced in release 12 with an extended version (called “Rio Remix”). This mix will later appear in the 2004 remix compilation Remixes 81-04 . This song is the most the earliest of those that are presented in this collection.
