Westminster [4] ( born Westminster ) is a city in the districts of Adams and Jefferson [1] , Colorado , USA . It borders on the southeast with the largest city in the state and its administrative center - Denver . Westminster is the 8th most populated city in the state and the 248th in terms of this indicator in the United States (as of 2012). In 2006, placed Westminster in 24th place on its list of “Best Places to Live in the United States” [5] .

Geography
Westminster is located in the central part of the state at the foot of the Rocky Mountains , so its height above sea level is 1600-1680 meters. The total area of the city is 85.1 km², of which 3.5 km² (approx. 4.1%) are open water spaces.
Westminster is served by Denver and airports. Major highways I-25 , , , , and pass through the city.
History
In 1858, gold was discovered in the South Platte River Valley, which led to the emergence of a local “gold rush” and the appearance of the first temporary buildings on the site of the future Westminsterr. In 1870, the first capital building with adjacent land of 160 acres , belonging to a certain Plizant DeSpein, appeared in the settlement, so this area soon became known as Despeyn-Junction . In 1881, a railway depot appeared in the village. In 1885, a Connecticut real estate agent named C came to the settlement. J. Harris, who began to buy local real estate in "large lots", so soon the village began to be called Harris , at the same time, many called it Darrell Park [6] . In 1891, construction began at . May 24, 1911 the settlement was incorporated, received the status of a city ( town ) and its current name in honor of its castle.
Attractions
- ("Big Red Castle", "Column of Fire") is a university, built in 1892, and since 1979 it has been included in the National Register of Historic Places of the United States .
