About the song
Two versions of the song were released - with a gradually fading end ( English fade-out ), and without this effect ( English cold end ). The “cold end” version is on the original 7 ”release and on the 1988 European Speak & Spell CD reissue, while the American version of Speak & Spell (like all singles containing this song) contains the“ fade-out ”version ". The 2006 edition of Speak & Spell (in all regions) also contains a cold end version.
Side “B” is occupied by the song “Ice Machine”, which is also presented in versions with and without attenuation. Reissues on the 1988 and 2006 CDs (in which this song was added as a bonus track) use the non-fading version. A live version of Ice Machine (recorded during the tour in support of Some Great Reward ) is available on version 12 of the 1984 single Blasphemous Rumours .
Due to the low charts (No. 57 in the UK Singles Chart [2] ), “Dreaming of Me” was not included in the track list of Speak & Spell [3] , but later appeared in the British re-release on CD as a bonus track [4] . In the American version of the album, the song “Dreaming of Me” replaced another, “I Sometimes Wish I Was Dead” [5] . In the 2006 edition of Speak & Spell , Dreaming of Me was inserted at the end of the track listing, after all the tracks in the original British version.
30 years after the single was released in the UK, a flash mob was held, the purpose of which was to promote "Dreaming of Me" back to the charts . The meaning of the action was to download the song online. The action was successful only in Germany [6] [7] .
