Biography
He achieved his first serious success in 1959 when he went to the European Championships in Lucerne and brought a silver medal from there (in the final of the first middleweight program he lost to the Pole Leszek Drogoš by unanimous decision). Thanks to a series of successful appearances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome - he defeated Briton William Fischer at the stage of semifinals of the middle weight category with a score of 3: 2, but lost to the American Wilbert McClure in the decisive match 1: 4.
Having received a silver Olympic medal, he decided to try himself among professionals and left the team. His professional debut took place in March 1961, he won his first rival ahead of schedule in the second round. Over the next six years, he spent many successful fights with strong opponents, won and defended several times the titles of champion of Italy and European champion in welterweight according to the European Boxing Union (EBU). In the summer of 1970, he had the chance to compete for the world title in the first middle weight category according to the versions of the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the World Boxing Association (WBA). The current American champion Freddie Little has stood on his feet all fifteen rounds, but the judges gave the victory to Bossi.
The first defense of the title was held in April 1971 in Spain against the local boxer Jose Hernandez Garcia, there was a draw, and the Italian remained with the champion belt. The second defense was held in October in Japan - the challenger Koichi Wajima was no worse than the champion and won by a separate decision. After this defeat, he decided to end his career as an athlete. In total, in professional boxing, he spent 51 fights, of which 40 ended with a victory (including 10 ahead of schedule), lost 8 times, in three cases a draw was recorded.
