Line 2 (Bilbao Metro)

Line 2 is historically the second subway line of Bilbao . It was opened on April 13, 2002 . Currently, it stretches from the Basauri station to the Santurtzi station . Its path runs through the municipalities of Basauri and Echevarri , the city of Bilbao and the left bank of the Nervion River. There are 24 metro stations on the line.

History

The first section of the line was opened on April 13, 2002 with 5 stations: Guruceta / Cruces , Ansio , Baracaldo , Bagats and Urbinaga . Line 2 connected with Line 1 at the San Inacio station , with which they form a single metro line leading from San Inacio to the Echebarri station ).

On January 8, 2005, 2 new stations were opened: Sestao (after Urbinaga station ) and Echebarri .

On January 20, 2007, 2 more new Line 2 stations were commissioned: Portuguese and Abacholo , both located on the territory of the Portuguese municipality.

On July 4, 2009, on Line 2, 2 more stations appeared: Penota and Santurtzi , both belonging to the municipality of Santursa .
