2008 European Ice Hockey Cup is the 4th and last IIHF European Champions Cup held on January 10–13, 2008 in St. Petersburg , Russia . This draw was the last tournament since the next year it was planned to launch the Hockey Champions League . All the cup games have traditionally been held in the Ice Palace of St. Petersburg, the home arena of the SKA club. The tournament was attended by six European champions who have the highest IIHF rating. Thus, the participants were “ MODO ” from Sweden , “ Karpat ” from Finland , “ Davos ” from Switzerland , “Sparta” Prague from the Czech Republic , “Slovan” Bratislava from Slovakia and “Metallurg” Magnitogorsk from Russia. For "Karpat" this was the third participation in the cup.

The winner was Magnitogorsk Metallurg, having defeated Sparta in Prague in the final with a score of 5: 2. The defender of the cup winner Vitaliy Atyushov was recognized as the most valuable player in the tournament. “Metallurg” in addition to the cup received the right to play in the Victoria Cup 2008 , in which the club from the NHL was to become its rival [1] .
