"Cloak and Dagger" ( born Cloak and Dagger ) - a film directed by Fritz Lang with the participation of Gary Cooper . Like the film " Street Madeleine, 13 " ( Fr. 13 Rue Madeleine ), he pays tribute to the operations of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), conducted during the Second World War in occupied Europe . Lack of finals
As Lang planned, the film had a varied ending. Cooper led a group of American paratroopers to South Germany in order to find what was left of the underground factory, the bodies of the dead workers of the concentration camp and evidence that the factory was producing nuclear weapons . Cooper notes that the factory could be moved to Spain or Argentina and delivered a diatribe: “This is the first year of the atomic age, and may the Lord help us if we think we can keep it a secret from the world!” [1] Producer Milton Sperling who often quarreled with Lang during filming, considered this scene absurd, since the Germans did not have nuclear weapons [2] .
Radio Show
In 1950, NBC released a show of the same name, based on the book by Ford and McBain, which included 26 episodes. It began with a question asked by actor Raymond Edward Johnson: “Are you ready to undertake a dangerous mission for the United States, knowing in advance that you will not return from it alive?” [3] .
A few words about Lardner
One of the writers, the writer Ringgold Wilmer Lardner , of the so-called “Hollywood Dozens”, was embroiled in a power struggle between John Edgar Hoover and the CIA . He was arrested and blacklisted during the Red Threat [4] .
