Biography
Joseph Kulik was born on March 8, 1912 in the village of Yuzefovka (now - Yosipovka, Blagoveshchensk district, Kirovograd region of Ukraine ). After elementary school, he worked as chairman of the village council. In 1934-1937 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1938 he graduated from training courses for the reserve command staff. In 1941, Kulik was re-drafted into the army. Since June of the same year - on the fronts of World War II [1] .
By July 1944, Senior Lieutenant Joseph Kulik commanded a company of the 77th separate assault engineering and combat battalion of the 16th assault engineering and combat brigade of the 3rd Guards Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . On July 30, 1944, the Kulika company transported two Soviet infantry battalions across the Vistula River in the vicinity of Annopol , 30 kilometers north of Sandomierz, for three hours, which contributed to the successful capture and retention of the bridgehead on the west bank of the river [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of September 23, 1944, Senior Lieutenant Joseph Kulik was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
In 1948, with the rank of captain, Kulik was sacked. He lived in Yoshkar-Ola [1] . He died in 1998 [2] .
He was awarded two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Order of the Red Star , a number of medals [1] .
