Biography

Roman Kuklev was born on July 23, 1916 in the village of Desyatskoye (now the Ivanovo district of the Ivanovo region ). After graduating from seven classes of the school, he worked first as an accountant on a collective farm , then as a tractor driver in a machine and tractor station. In 1937, Kuklev was called up for service in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He participated in the battles of the Soviet-Finnish war . Demobilized, he worked as a bailiff in the city of Kokhma . In late 1941, Kuklev was again drafted into the army and sent to the front of the Great Patriotic War. In one of the battles he was wounded [1] .

By January 1945, the foreman, Roman Kuklev, was the senior tank driver of the 34th Separate Guards Heavy Tank Regiment of the 8th Guards Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . He distinguished himself during the liberation of Poland . On January 15, 1945, the Kuklev crew participated in the breakthrough of the German defense near Radom in the area of ​​the settlement of Bervce . In that battle, he destroyed 1 tank and several enemy firing points, but he was also shot down. Despite the fire in the tank and the failure of the entire crew, Kuklev continued to fight, dying in battle. He was buried in Radom [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of March 24, 1945, for the "exemplary execution of the combat missions of the command on the front of the fight against the German invaders and the courage and heroism shown" of the guard, Sergeant Roman Kuklev was posthumously awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union . He was also awarded the Orders of Lenin , Red Star , two medals "For Courage" [1] .

A street in Kokhma was named after Kuklev [1] .

“In the battles during the breakthrough of the defense in the area of ​​Chemnuv, Lipska Volya and during the occupation of the strongholds of Vezhkhovin, the railway station Bervts, Comrade Kuklev was always ahead. Comrade Kuklev crushed 2 anti-tank guns with caterpillars of his tank, making a breakthrough into the deep rear, inflicted a panic on the enemy, who began to retreat. Kuklev turned his tank towards a walking German convoy with infantry, crushed two vehicles with German soldiers and officers. Two tigers opened fire on our tank. The crew of the tank entered into combat with them. After stubborn and fierce fighting one "t gr ”caught fire. Then the German submachine guns set fire to the hero’s tank. Comrade Kuklev managed to put out the burning tank under heavy gun and machine gun fire. Having been seriously wounded, he sat down with difficulty on the arms of the tank and began to crush the enemy’s firing points with his tracks. the tank, the rest of the crew were out of order, Comrade Kuklev, ignoring the flames and severe pain, he himself stood up for the gun and began to repulse the Germans' attacks. Grenades are running out, but Comrade Kuklev is fighting a hundred German submachine gunners. The grenades are over. The Germans came close to the tank, but comrade Kuklev closed the tank from the inside and did not surrender. So the foreman Kuklev Roman Pavlovich died in a burning tank of the guard.

He deserves the posthumous title of Hero of the Soviet Union. "
