Biography

Alexey Kukin was born on February 12, 1912 in the village of Karacharovo (now - within the boundaries of Murom ). After graduating from four classes of school, he worked first in the parental farm, then as a boilermaker at a steam engine repair plant. In May 1932, Kukin was called up to serve in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1932 he graduated from the Saratov armored school, in 1941 - two courses of the Military Academy of mechanization and motorization of the Red Army [1] .

In May-September 1939, Senior Lieutenant Alexei Kukin, being the commander of the company of the 3rd tank battalion of the 11th light tank brigade of the 1st army group, participated in combat operations on the Khalkhin-Gol river . On July 3 - 13, 1939, Kukin’s company destroyed about two companies of Japanese infantry and three anti-tank artillery batteries during the Bain-Tsagansky battle in Mongolia [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of August 29, 1939, for "courage and heroism shown in performing military and international duty", Senior Lieutenant Alexei Kukin was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal number 141 (awarded later) [1] .

Participated in the battles of World War II in October - December 1941. He commanded a tank battalion of the 24th tank brigade on the Western Front. Since July 1942, after a serious operation and treatment at the hospital, he was appointed deputy commander of the 9th Training Tank Regiment. Since January 1943, A.V. Kukin - Head of the course at the Military Academy of Armored and Mechanized Troops [1] .

In 1949, Kukin graduated from the officer development courses. In 1960, with the rank of colonel, he was dismissed. He lived in Moscow . He died on December 24, 1977, was buried at the Vostryakovsky cemetery of Moscow [1] .

He was also awarded the Order of the Red Banner , the Red Star , the Mongolian Order of the Red Banner , and a number of medals [1] .

A school was named after Kukin and a stela was installed in Murom [1] .
