Biography

He studied at the Kharkov gymnasium , from where in 1855 he entered the medical faculty of Kharkov University . He graduated in 1860 with honors, with the rank of a doctor. Appointed as the resident of the therapeutic and obstetric clinics of Kharkov University. In the same year he went abroad - to replenish his knowledge of chemistry, he worked first in the Würz laboratory in Paris , and then in the laboratory of Professor Goppe-Zeiler in Tübingen .

In April 1861 he was sent on a business trip for two years to prepare for the teaching of medical chemistry. Upon his return to Russia after defending his dissertation in November 1866, N. L. Zalessky was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine.

In April 1868 he was elected assistant professor of toxicology and forensic chemistry; from 1869 to 1876 he also taught forensic medicine at the law faculty (since 1870 as an extraordinary professor). In 1871 he was elected professor of hygiene at Kazan University , but did not go there. In 1875 he was approved as an ordinary professor of forensic medicine. In 1882, he was transferred to the Department of Pharmacology (to the place of the deceased I.N. Stankevich ), which best met his training and personal sympathies. From 1883 to 1893 he also taught at the Department of General Therapy.

In 1885 he was elected an ordinary professor of pharmacology. Since 1888 - Professor Emeritus. Zalessky occupied the Department of Pharmacology until 1893 , when he retired with a length of service of 30 years.

Scientific activity

The most famous of his scientific works:

  • “Research on the uremic process and kidney function”;
  • "On the composition of human bones and various animals."
